The Abia State Town Union Association in Lagos last week bestowed an honorary award to Prof. Silvanus Okeke for his social reformation and contributions to humanity.
Responding to the award, Prof. appreciates the organization for the acknowledgment regardless of being far away in Houston, Texas, USA and reassures his steadfastness in contributing to societal development.

About Prof. Silvanus Okeke
A John F. Kennedy Scholar, Professor Silvanus Okeke, is from Ututu in Arochukwu LGA. He is a product of Government College, Umuahia, and had his B.Sc degree from the University of Lagos, as well as his M.Sc both from the great University of Lagos Business
School. He also has an M.Sc and M.Phil in International Law and Diplomacy from Lagos State University, before proceeding abroad for more laurels in 2000.
Okeke is a Professor of International Business and Finance and started his teaching career after a stinct with Mobil Oil Corporation in Lagos for 15 years. He taught in University of Lagos (1993-1996}, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University and Delta state University (1995 – 2000), before proceeding abroad for greener Pastures. He has a PhD from Walden University, Minnesota in United States of America where he majored in Community Health from the School of Public Health and Health Sciences.
While in Nigeria he was a Core Consultant and Facilitator for the Centre For Management Development (as an Expert in Productivity Management), the Nigerian Institute of Management (as a Core Lec in Management, Labour and Industrial Relations, and Labour Law), the Financial Institution Training Center (FITC) in the area of Banking and Finance.
In United States of America Professor Okeke has been a lecturer at Lewis University in Romeoville, in Illinois, (2001 – 2007), and Joliet Junior College, Joliet in Illinois, near Chicago from 2007 – 2015, and he is still a visiting Lecturer at JJC till date. He has been collaborating with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank in Global Health Care Advocacy. Professor Okeke is the Founder of Global Health Lecture Series that are prominent in YouTube. Okeke has over a hundred and two videos on over 180 communicable diseases, globally. Professor Okeke has written 26 books in the areas of Management, Labour and Industrial Relations, Human resources, Organizational Behavior, Labour Laws and Interventionist Policies of Government, and Small Scale Business Management, just to mention a few.
Mobil Oil Corporation in 1988 launched Okeke’s book “Principles of Labour and Industrial Relations” at a time he was the National Publicity Secretary Of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), a National Organization in the Oil Industries that saw him releasing a New Book “ Labour Law and Interrventionist Policies of Government”. The Launching of the Book was organized by Robert Parker and Robert Ericcson under the Distinguished Chairmanship of the Obi of Onitsha – Obi Ofala Okagbue and Pius Akinyelure as the Chief Launcher. Today Pius is serving under Tinubu in the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
As a Community Leader, he became first, the Secretary of Ututu Development Union from his University days at the University of Lagos from 1976 until 1980 when he became the Chairman of Ututu Development Union, a position he held for 20 years ,( 1980-2000.)
Okeke’s Scholarship Scheme for Ututu Indigenes started in 1984 with his initial salaries as a young graduate and has continued until this day 2024 where four University Students are still under his Scholarship Scheme. Okeke’s scholarship scheme for University Students started under His Royal Highness Eze S.N Okore with our Professor Emeritus Prof. J. K. Onoh as the Chairman of that occasion. That Scholarship Scheme marked the Launching of Ututu Day – a Unique Day for Ututu that has continued until this day. The Scholarship Scheme and his various contributions to the development of Ututu is on-going and Professor Silvanus Okeke is determined to continue.
