Parents of London-to-Lagos solo driver, Pelumi Nubi, have said that their daughter’s arrival in Lagos ended their two months of anxiety.
The 28-year-old travel content creator completed her solo trip from London, United Kingdom, to Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday.
She received a hero’s welcome from fans, families, and friends showing support for her epic feat.
A video shared on the Channels TV X handle on Sunday shows how excited her parents were to have seen their daughter arrive safely.
Pelumi’s father described her safe arrival in Nigeria as the “end of anxiety”.
He said, “We can sleep tonight, end of anxiety. I kept on telling people that what looks to you people as a content creation is a nightmare for us. Every night we couldn’t sleep, so it’s been two months of fun for the whole world but not for us.
“It’s been two months of fun to the whole world but not to us. My wife did not quickly approve her request when she wanted to embark on the journey, she was shaking, she was afraid and Nubi said, ‘that is why I don’t want to tell you, I have been planning this for two years.’
“We are believers in God but it’s been two months of anxiety, especially going through the desert, sleepless nights and we thought that getting to West African border after Gambia but we found out that, that is where the challenges really started but we thank God all is ending in praise.”
Nubi, who began the trip on January 31, was involved in an accident during the journey.
In an Instagram post in March, she shared a picture of her now-wrecked car, revealing severe damage to the front bumper and a shattered windscreen.
An accompanying video shows her being carried in an ambulance, with the caption: “Say a prayer for me.”
